There is not much to enjoy in the 2023 4Runner when cabin design is considered. Aside from expanding its regular nine-cubic-foot cargo space when all seats are in use and going as high as 88.8 cubic feet when you fold the last two rows, the cabin uses low rent materials. This is definitely a disappointment for many.

Technology & Safety

The 2023 Ford Explorer gets a reliable infotainment interface that responds quickly to user commands and displays crisp graphics with its eight-inch touch screen. It also has six speakers, two USB ports, Wi-Fi hot spot, and satellite radio, together with smartphone integration. Safety wise, it is gifted with MyKey feature to limit audio and speed for secondary drivers. Likewise, it has reliable driver aids like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist, as well as pedestrian detection, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and forward collision warning.

The 4Runner uses an eight-inch touch screen display as well. While it includes an Amazon Alexa integration with is standard setup, it falls short in terms of safety equipment. In fact, it misses out on lane keep assist.  

Performance

The Ford Explorer starts sprucing up great power for 300 horses with its base engine setup. There is also one more variant where you will enjoy results of 400 horsepower. The 4Runner, meanwhile, has a sluggish engine that can only yield up to 270 horsepower when you step on the brakes.
