2022 Ford Bronco vs. 2022 Jeep Wrangler

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is an iconic macho vehicle that is coveted for its removable structure, superb powertrains and outstanding off-road capabilities. But how does it compare to the 2022 Ford Bronco, another macho vehicle praised for its blocky appearance, tough powertrains and array of customization choices?

Design & Style

The Bronco is specially designed for off-road driving, and excels at it. This vehicle holds a maximum of five passengers and though it is technically considered an SUV by many it actually uses a pickup truck style frame, and can be purchased with either 4 or 2 door configurations, with a hard or soft top.  It can be equipped with numerous wheel designs and tires that range from sixteen inch steel to thirty seven inch Raptor style treads.

The Jeep Wrangler is also an off-road powerhouse. Its latest updates for this year include an eight inch touch display and the option of the 4.88 axle that uses a crawl ratio of 100:1. Like other Jeeps, the Wrangler is derived from military vehicles but is equipped with a number of modern conveniences to maximize comfort. It too seats five passengers.

Technology & Safety

The limited federal impact tests which have been conducted on the Jeep Wrangler were not promising, and resulted in it getting a three star score. To make matters worse, it doesn’t even have emergency automatic brakes, which now comes standard in most of its competitors. Perks within its cabin include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, air conditioning, power windows, tow hooks and leather seats.

The Ford Bronco has performed well on its independent agency safety tests. Unlike the Jeep Wrangler, emergency automated brakes come standard, along with automated high beams, pedestrian detection and hilly descent control. Perks within its cabin include leather steering, remote start, two zoned climate control, navigation, USB ports and a ten speaker sound system from Bang & Olufsen.

Performance

The most powerful Ford Bronco is equipped with a dual turbo V6 engine that is 2.7 liter and capable of generating 315 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 6.3 seconds while towing a maximum of 3,500 pounds. The Jeep Wrangler is equipped with a V6, 3.6 liter engine that can generate 285 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 6.1 seconds with a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

The Bottom Line

While both vehicles are comparable when it comes to seating capacity and performance, the Jeep Wrangler fails miserably when it comes to safety. In this day and age, any vehicle that doesn’t offer standardized emergency automatic brakes should probably be left on the lot, which makes the Ford Bronco the winner.
