2022 Ford Edge vs. 2022 Jeep Compass

The 2022 Ford Edge has garnered acclaim for its marvelous appearance, advanced tech and impeccable safety scores. But how does it compare to the 2022 Jeep Compass, an SUV lauded for its sharp appearance, safety gear and fabulous Trailhawk trim?

Design & Style

The Jeep Compass holds five occupants, and has been refreshed this year with bigger displays, newer technology, standardized safety tech and an overall design which is more refined. The frontal fascia showcases slimmer LED style headlights with a grille that has seven slots, and within the cabin passengers will be presented with softer touch materials and shiny plastic. Sixty cubic feet has been reserved for cargo space when the backseats are folded down.

The Ford Edge also seats five, and its latest updates for this year include a standardized twelve inch touch display and all-wheel drive. Those that upgrade to ST or Titanium will get leather covered seats which when folded back provide 73 cubic feet for cargo space. A powered liftgate has also been standardized on the SEL trim and the dashboard is dominated by the touch display which is simple and intuitive to use.

Technology & Safety

The Ford Edge has done an outstanding job on its crash test scores, so much so that it earned both a Top Safety Pick award and a 5 star NHTSA review. It offers rollover resistance, emergency automatic brakes, frontal facing camera, activated lane control, blind area monitoring and more. Amenities within the cabin include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, heated seats, keyless start and premium audio.

Though the Jeep Compass is equipped with most of the safety features found in the Ford Edge, the NHTSA still had a problem with its frontal impact safety and as a consequence only gave it a 4 star review. Amenities within its cabin include USB C style ports, satellite radio, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, keyless start and ten inch touch displays.

Performance

The Ford Compass is equipped with an inline 4, 2.4 liter engine that can generate 177 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 9.75 seconds and tow 2,000 pounds. Those that purchase the Ford Edge ST will get a V6, 2.7 liter engine that can generate 335 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in less than six seconds with a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

The Bottom Line

The Ford Edge has better safety credentials, performance and towing capacity than the Jeep Compass, which is also mired by rear seats that are too narrow. And when you consider the fact that the Ford Edge also has more cargo space and better fuel economy, there is no reason to buy a Jeep Compass.
