2022 Ford Explorer vs. 2022 Land Rover Discovery

The 2022 Ford Explorer is a great option if you're looking for a competent three-row SUV with a gorgeous aesthetic and great performance. With its excellent ergonomics, this one is a terrific pick for us.

What additions will the 2022 Land Rover Discovery make to its current list of standard features? We will compare these two vehicles to help you make a better informed decision.

Design & Style

The Explorer (except from the Base) has a remote vehicle starting technology that allows the driver to start the car from inside their home. By doing this, the driver may easily warm up the engine before getting into the car. Additionally, the temperature control system will automatically warm or cool the inside. There is no remote starting method available for the Discovery.

An optional 115-volt a/c outlet is available in the center console of the Explorer (except Base/XLT), allowing you to recharge a laptop or use small domestic appliances without the need for specialized adapters that may break or go missing. There isn't a house-current outlet available on The Discovery.

The Explorer's optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can autonomously start, stop, and change directions when it parallel parks or backs into a parking space. The automated parking system on the Discovery needs use of the gearbox and brakes to park the vehicle securely.

Technology & Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards the Explorer the highest rating: "Top Pick Plus" for 2021. This rating is given in recognition of the Explorer's top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, roof strength, side impact, moderate overlap frontal, head restraint tests, as well as its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight's "Acceptable" rating. The Discovery has not yet undergone testing.

The Ford Explorer's front seat shoulder belts may be raised or lowered to meet a broad range of driver and passenger heights for increased safety. An improved fit may reduce injuries, and the greater comfort encourages occupants to use their seatbelts. The seat belts of the Land Rover Discovery can't be adjusted in height.

New cars are meticulously inspected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for frontal and side collisions. The Land Rover Discovery performed worse overall in these tests than the Ford Explorer, suggesting that drivers of the Discovery are more likely to sustain serious injuries in an accident.

Performance

The Ford Explorer's standard 2.3 turbo 4-cylinder engine can generate up to 300 horsepower and 310 lbs.-ft of torque. The Discovery's standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine has a maximum output of 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The Bottom Line

While each vehicle has its own unique characteristics, the 2022 Ford Explorer beats its competition in every single aspect, particularly in terms of safety. Do you still have any concerns about this three-row SUV's capabilities? We think you'll like it just as much as those who are already motivated.
