2022 Ford Mustang vs. 2022 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2022 Ford Mustang and 2022 Chevrolet Camaro are two of America’s most iconic cars. Both offer exceptional power, unbridled performance and the latest safety tech. But which is the best?

Design & Style

The Chevrolet Camaro can be purchased in the form of a convertible or coupe, and each has style that echoes the 1960s. It comes in four trims, which are ZL1, LS, SS and LT, and can seat four people. The base model comes with cloth upholstery, seven inch touch displays and eighteen inch wheels. The exterior has an elevated beltline with a roof that has been lowered to match the extended hood and shortened haunches. It is both sleek and immaculately proportioned.

The Ford Mustang was originally a pony car that over a half century later has morphed into a sporty convertible and coupe. The Ford Mustang has earned a stellar 5 star rating via the NHTSA thanks to its many standardized features like emergency automated brakes, blind area monitoring, activated lane control and automated high beam headlights. Amenities within its interior include a nine speaker sound system, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, powered seats, and climate control.

The NHTSA has also given a 5 star rating to the Chevrolet Camaro. It is equipped with most features found in the Mustang, including adapted cruise control, parking sensors and blind area monitoring. Amenities within its cabin include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, an audio system with six speakers, powered seats, keyless start and seven inch touch displays.

Performance

Those that want ultimate performance from the Chevrolet Camaro will purchase the ZL1, which comes with a supercharged V8 engine that can generate an amazing 650 horsepower that allows it to blast from zero to sixty in around 3.5 seconds. Those that want ultimate performance from the Ford Mustang will go for the GT500, which has a V8, 5.2 liter engine that can generate 760 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in about 3.3 seconds.

The Bottom Line

Though both cars are tied when it comes to safety credentials, the Mustang leaves the Camaro in the dust when it comes to performance. The Camaro also has inferior fuel economy, its audio system has fewer speakers and its back seats are so small that the car is best occupied by two adults, and this combined with its ridiculously small trunk makes the Ford Mustang the winner.
