The 2022 Ford Mustang and the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata feature a front grille with a thick bar across the middle. The Mustang's grille is split into three sections, while the Miata's is divided into two halves. Both cars also have a thin strip of chrome running across the bottom of their front air intakes, hidden behind black plastic covers when not in use.

The rear end of these two cars are pretty similar; each features a large, round taillight flanked by two smaller circular lights on either side. The Mustang has an additional pair of vertical LED lights at its outer edges, while the Miata only uses one pair per side.

The interior design of the 2022 Ford Mustang is a bit more eye-catching than that of the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata. It also boasts a 6.2-inch touchscreen display, which can control many functions (including the infotainment system) without having to take your eyes off the road. Many reviewers have pointed out that these knobs are difficult to reach due to their small size and position near other controls on the instrument panel—in addition, they're prone to breakage over time due to constant use by drivers who don't want or need them!

The Ford Mustang is available with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. In contrast, the MX-5 Miata has standard front parking sensors and optional rear cross-traffic alert—but no blind spot monitoring or adaptive cruise control. The only difference between these two cars is that you can get a high-tech option for the MX-5 Miata for a few hundred dollars more than you would for the Mustang, which has more basic features.

Performance

The Ford Mustang GT has a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque—it's the most powerful engine in its class. The Mazda MX-5 Miata, on the other hand, has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque—though it does come equipped with a manual transmission as standard equipment.

The Bottom Line

The Mustang is the clear winner here. It has a more powerful engine and is bigger in every dimension. The Miata is smaller and lighter, which should make it handle better, but when you look at the numbers (and our own experience), Ford wins this one hand down.
